The Family of Weston Hunt
and Edna Stark

INTRODUCTION

This page last updated August 8, 2000

Edna V. Hunt was born in March 1879 to Jake and Jane Whitten Stark. She was listed with her parents as one year old on the 1880 census of Choctaw County. Edna is Jake and Jane's only known child, and her mother Jane died sometime between 1885 and 1897. When Edna was 16 years old (1897), her father Jake remarried to Margaret J. Chancellor. Two years later, in September 1899, Edna married Weston Hunt.

Weston was the son of Thomas Sumpter W. Hunt and his first wife S.E. "Betty" Adams. T.S.W. Hunt was part of a rather large family of Hunts who settled in Oktibbeha and Choctaw Counties, most of whom are descended from Keziah McClanahan and William Lacey Hunt, son of Esli Hunt and Nancy Lacey. Weston's family was from the Sturgis area of Oktibbeha County, near to where Edna was reared in Choctaw County.

Edna and Weston had four children before she died in April 1929. She was buried near her father in Bethel Cemetery near Sturgis. Six months later, in October 1929, Weston remarried to Mrs. Lector Lena Savage. According to Lector's grandson Robert Taylor, Lector had children by her first marriage to Mr. Savage (I do not know if they divorced or if he died.) Weston's son Arnold had Dewitt Savage give an affidavit for him to get married in July 1929. Perhaps Dewitt was Lector's son? Weston and Lector later had two daughters: Thelma Bernice Hunt and Jewel Dean Hunt. Weston apparently reared his family near Sturgis in Oktibbeha and Choctaw Counties. He died in October 1966 and was buried next to Edna in Bethel Cemetery outside Sturgis. Lector died in January 1971 and was buried next to Weston.
